I hiked the northern part of Albania and the southern part of Montenegro just across from the border in 2017. It was rough and beautiful, reminding me strongly of the Dolomites. Albania is still recovering from the rule of Enver Hoxha, whose main achievement was the impoverishment of his people. I saw old border fortifications, facing inwards to prevent his people leaving.
